Ouch …

Someone found my blog with the google search “terrified of having disabled child” and has read the whole thing. I can only hope and pray it somehow helps.

On the other hand, I won’t comment on the person who found me via “Daugter shirt off” or “can a doctor tell if a girl masturbates by peeing in a cup.”

Jeeze.

Moving on with the guardianship … remember that the day she turns 18, without my having legal guardianship, no one can tell me anything about Pearlsky medically, at school, etc. No exceptions, that’s the law. Uggh.

Today I received from the court the “Citation Giving Notice Of Petition For Appointment of Guardian For Incapacitated Person.” Sounds scary. Can you guess what I need to do with it?

What exactly is a buck worth?

I met the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services at a cafe today. She had about forty-five minutes and used the first half to talk about her philosophy and other stuff. If she was trying to burn time or give me valuable information, I am not sure.

I am leading up to more posts on David and sending your kid to live in a residential program vs. keeping your kid at home. Trust me.

So, what scares the carp out of you? Or what is the thing you dread most? With respect to your kid, of course.

I have been railing about how the summer program is awful. No one is taking responsibility for any of the failings. The truth is, I know most of the answers to my questions, I just want the district to own up to them.

Although I absolutely hate the recent changes to their site, I check the MSNBC web site first in the morning to see if I missed anything real big while sleeping (like the LHC and my desired black hole …). After reading the headlines this morning, I figure everyone else is being shat upon, my day isn’t going to be so bad. And you know, I was right.

Lisa: Dad, do you know what schadenfreude is?
Homer: [sarcastic] No, I do not know what schadenfreude is, please tell me because I am dying to know.
Lisa: It’s a German word for shameful joy, taking pleasure in the suffering of others.
Homer: Oh, come on, Lisa. I’m just glad to see him fall flat on his butt! He’s usually all happy and comfortable, and surrounded by loved ones, and it makes me feel…what’s the opposite of that shameful joy thing of yours?
Lisa: Sour grapes.
Homer: Boy, those Germans have a word for everything.

(“When Flanders Failed,” third episode of the The Simpsons’ third season, October 3, 1991)

No, I don’t have schadenfreude when reading the news, but I am glad God’s attention is elsewhere today. Now, about the curvy ladies …

Several years ago I helped a friend move her daughter into a college about two hours away. During the drive back I get a call from my ex. She asks what I am doing.

I’m driving back from moving Kim into school, why?

Can you pull over?

Huh?

I need to talk to you, please pull over. Really.

This was after David was at the new place just a couple of weeks. He was in one of their regular residences, but they quickly moved him into their medical residence because he was having some seizure issues. We thought maybe he had a virus or something. This center has a licensed medical facility AND a specialty hospital, as well as the school and everything else. The medical residence is nice, the rooms are dorm-ish, but the hall reeks of “hospital.” Multiple nurses 24/7 on the floor and nurse assistants.

So, my ex tells me what is going on. A week later we want to document it and make sure everyone who should know knows what happened. Hence, I present to you that email. Remember, David is fine, and he is still there.

Once again, summer “camp” for Pearlsky is not what it should be. There is a new “Special Education Coordinator” for the school district and she just started. We spoke the other night … I found out she has three kids, has been in the district as a special ed teacher for over a dozen years, and has a brother that was on an IEP. She seems to really understand and have empathy, we will see. After our long conversation, I wanted to clear up one thing that was said … so, hence, an email. I really need to get a life …

I’ll do a couple of posts about moving your kid out, hopefully meaning into a residential facility, and discuss it in light of keeping a kid at home. Real life may get in the way so the posts may not be linear … like if I decide to tell you about the two hours last night, 8:30 P.M. to 10:30 P.M. when the school superintendent (a district of over 6,000 students) and I were going back and forth (he was real pissed … on my and Pearlsky’s side). But I digress …
